Local residents & National Environmental organisations lobby Government with giant postcard

The heads of Britain's leading environmental organisations signed a joint letter, and added their signatures to a giant postcard for Hazel Blears (Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government) opposing the propsed Westbury Bypass, on 6 May. The three heads of Britain's environment groups, with hundreds of thousands of supporters, were Shaun Spiers of Campaign to Protect Rural England, Stephen Joseph of Campaign for Better Transport, and Andy Atkins of Freinds of the Earth.

The three added their signatures to many others collected from the public on 16 April at the Wiltshire CPRE open day in Devizes. Further sigantories included George McDonic, Chairman of Wilts CPRE; Bill Jenman, head of biodiversity action at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust; Cate Le Grice Mack, Chair of the White Horse Alliance; and Patrick Holden of the Soil Association, guest speaker at the open day.
